Bradly Associates was established in 1973 when Peter Bradly left the CADCentre Cambridge where the GINO graphics package was being developed to start his own company selling and installing the Fortran version of GINO on DEC PDP-11s. Many other installations of GINO were undertaken during the next 10 years on a wide variety of mini and mainframe computers including a total re-write in Coral-66! The launch of the DEC VAX followed by the 64-bit ALPHA range of computers saw a significant increase in business which included a substantial amount of device-driver writing for a huge array of printers, plotters and graphics terminals. In 1988, Bradly Associates bought the full development rights of GINO from the CADCentre increasing the product portfolio and making the graphics software available on an even wider range of platforms. Bradly Associates' philosophy has always been to establish a good working relationship with its customers, working together to supply the right tools and expertise to achieve the customer's aims. As well as the developer and supplier of products, consultancy plays an important role with Bradly Associates' 50 man years of graphics experience being called upon for a variety of short-term and long-term contracts. |
GINO's origins begin at Cambridge University, England in 1965 when Charles Lang and Peter Woodsford began developing a general purpose graphics software package written in the Systems Assembly Language (SAL) on an ATLAS2 computer. GINO (Graphical INput and Output) was designed as a 3D package right from the outset, thus removing any complexities of trying to add a 3rd dimension to a 2D graphics package later on, and along with the criteria of being machine and device-independent, has enabled it to grow and adapt in a variety of directions always keeping pace with new IT technologies. GINO was re-written in FORTRAN in 1972 and a C/C++ version has been available since 1995. It has been implemented on the smallest 8-bit micro computers right up to the largest CRAY supercomputers, with 16-bit, 32-bit and 64-bit coming and going as technology changes. With the addition of the GUI products and .NET versions, GINO is in place to take on any challange it is given for the 21st century. |
The Word of GINO In the beginning there was GINO who lived in the land of ATLAS. But GINO did not live long in that land as GINO was poorly ASSEMBLED and was not able to communicate with the rest of creation. However, GINO begat GINO-F who lived in the land of MAINFRAME and MINI-COMPUTER. GINO-F grew strong and was victorious in that land and soon entered into the land of WORKSTATION, conquering the cities of SUN, APOLLO, PERC and even WHITECHAPEL. But even as it did, a great new land arose from the depths, the land of PC. The first city which was built on this land was that of 380Z and GINO-F entered into this city in the early days. DOS was the language which was first spoken in the land of PC and a REAL language that was. However, because of its limitations, it was EXTENDED by its inhabitants and much bigger books were written. GINO-F mastered both languages and so spread throughout the land of PC. Meanwhile in the land of WORKSTATION a new people arose who, were known as the X and GINO-F joined the X to conquer that land. At this time an enemy called GKS entered this land and even parts of PC. GKS and his son GKS3D beguiled many of their inhabitants for many years, but because of their inflexibility and lack of support, soon became weak in the eyes of others and were eventually lost in the forest of STANDARDS. Now in these days GINO-F bore a son called GINO-C in the land of WORKSTATION and together they grew in strength. Back in the land of PC a great volcano known as WINDOWS, erupted at this time, spewing its contents all over the many and populous cities. There was great fear in the land as the threat of another volcano from within WINDOWS grew, and this became known as NT. GINO-F attempted to climb the great peak with the assistance of CLEARWIN but realised he needed the help of his growing son GINOMENU. Together they climbed the great mountain which by now covered most of the land of PC. The lower parts of that great mountain were known as level 16 while the upper reaches of the mountain, which reached verily up into the skies, was known as level 32. So great was the mountain that a city called VISUAL-BASIC was built on the lower slopes and GINO-C settled in this city after many days. GINO-C bore many sons in the land of PC and he named them after the regions of the land in which they settled, namely STATIC, DLL, DBOS, Win16, Win32s and NT. At about this time GINO-F gave birth to a second son, and because he looked so much like his father, he was also called GINO-F, but also known as GINO-F90. GINO-F also prophesied that many more sons would be born to him as he saw the growth of the mountain known as WINDOWS and upon the rising of a great new city called DELPHI on its slopes. These are the exploits of GINO-F, who with his sons, GINO-C and GINOMENU, and their sons, lived peacefully in all the lands of PC, WORKSTATION and SUPER-COMPUTER even until this day. |
